• Al Roll, Board Chair

Al Roll works for the Dakotas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church as a Missional Impact Development Coach. He is a Certified Public Accountant who previously worked in the management of state government, education, and church operations. He joined the board in late 2022. Roll strongly believes in second chances for anyone willing to make an effort necessary to improve their position in life. Al is married to his wife, Kathy, of 32 years. They have five children and six grandchildren. They have resided in Maple Grove, Minnesota, for over two years.

• Eldon Wegscheid, Board Treasurer

Eldon Wegscheid is an associate pastor at Living Christ’s Ministry church in Brooklyn Center, MN.
Wegscheid became a second-career pastor after retiring from the electronics industry. He holds a BSEE degree from the University of Minnesota and a MDiv degree from the Master’s Institute Seminary. The emphasis of his pastoral ministry is on teaching and spiritual transformation counseling, a service he has provided for more than 30 years. Wegscheid is committed to lifelong learning and enabling others to rise out of their current situations to live a fulfilled life, now and eternally. Married 40+ years to one amazing woman, he and his wife have four daughters, three sons-in-law and six grandchildren.

• Barbara Tuccitto Warren, Interim Board Secretary

Barbara Tuccitto Warren serves as the interim secretary for Mom’s Haven of Hope. Tuccitto Warren brings 19 years of experience in board management, state and local project management, public policy, and human resource development. Tuccitto Warren has been an independent contractor for 23 years providing administrative management services to nonprofits, businesses and government entities. Tuccitto Warren is known for her ability to build and nurture an emerging group of public, private and nonprofit sectors, creating synergy while utilizing strength-based approaches that innovate, collaborate and form lasting, widespread change. Tuccitto Warren holds a master’s in Management and Human Resources from St. Mary’s University and a Mini MBA in Nonprofit Executive Management from the University of St. Thomas.

• Bryan Kowalski, Member

Bryan Kowalski has been a licensed contractor for over 25 years. He joined the board as he is passionate about ensuring people live a quality of life. Bryan is very active in his church, where he volunteers for several programs when he is not golfing or enjoying the outdoors. Bryan lives in Fridley, MN, with his wife, cat and four dogs. He is a proud grandfather of two grandchildren.

• Wanda Hart, Member

Wanda Hart, a realtor at Coldwell Banker Realty, combines her passion for helping people find their ideal homes with practical expertise gained from her experience as a general contractor and designer. Additionally, with a background in non-profit board leadership and fundraising, for various private and non-profit organizations, Wanda is dedicated to empowering others to achieve success for their goals in life. Wanda follows where Jesus leads with a dedicated heart of faith. Wanda, married to David for 48 years, is a proud parent of four children and seven grandchildren.

• Pam Powell

Both of Executive Director Pam Powell’s daughters became single moms at a young age. Powell and her husband supported them in their home while they finished academic degrees in their fields of interest. Through this experience, Powell learned about the lack of support and isolation young single moms face. Powell is excited about the prospect of providing housing as part of Mom’s Haven of Hope’s ministry so that single moms can find an affordable, stable place to live while they gain independent living skills and become self-supporting. Powell has an accounting degree from Bemidji State University and a Mini MBA in Nonprofit Executive Management from the University of St. Thomas. She has worked for both large and small companies in the Twin Cities area. Powell brings business experience and passion to Mom’s Haven of Hope.

Board Member Job Description

Mission
Moms Haven of Hope provides single moms with a home and supportive community where they can develop life skills, complete their education, grow spiritually and gain self-sufficiency.

Position
The Board will support the work of Mom’s Haven of Hope and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations, service to clients and direction of the staff is the responsibility of Mom’s Haven of Hope’s executive director (ED), the Board-ED relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.

Board Member responsibilities include:

Leadership, governance and oversight
• Serve as a trusted advisor to the ED as s/he implements Mom’s Haven of Hope’s strategic plan.
• Evaluate annually the performance of the Executive director.
• Attend 10 of 12 monthly meetings of the Board of Directors with 50% of them being in person.
• Set organizational policy.
• Approve and monitor annual budget and plan.
• Help develop a mission and vision statement and review periodically.
• Participate in the establishment of a strategic plan for the organization (to help ensure future success and survival).
• Assist the ED and board chair in identifying and recruiting other board or committee members.
• Evaluate organizational effectiveness in accomplishing Board-approved objectives.
• Serve on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments.
• Become informed and educated about the organization and the mission of which it is a part.
• Read and be familiar with the organization’s by-laws; plus review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings.
• Serve as a liaison to other community and church organizations acting as an ambassador for the organization.
• Support the programs and services of the organization and speak on its behalf, as able.

Fundraising
Mom’s Haven of Hope board members will make personal annual donations that reflect their commitment to the mission and/or raise funds for the organization in a unique way. It is the responsibility of the board members to actively plan and participate in fundraising events sponsored by the organization and to solicit contributions from foundations, organizations and individuals.

Board terms/participation
All Mom’s Haven of Hope board members will serve two year terms, but will be eligible for re-appointment for up to five consecutive terms. Board meetings will be held monthly with video chat meetings or committee meetings held once in-between scheduled board meetings if needed. During the capital fundraising campaign and the procurement of a housing unit, board members are expected to work about 10 hours a month on board related business including the meeting

Qualifications
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Mom’s Haven of Hope’s mission and who feels called to serve in this capacity. Ideal candidates will be in prayer for the ongoing work of Mom’s Haven of Hope and will work hard to discern God’s will without hidden agendas. This person will be an active participant on the board and must be willing to put in the work required to maintain the viability of Mom’s Haven of Hope. The ideal candidate will bring to the board personal or professional expertise from the areas of marketing, legal, finance, business, fundraising, social services, or non-profit/religious sectors.
Service on the Mom’s Haven of Hope’s Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative costs in relation to the board members’ duties.
